My Hero…

What do all heroes have in common? A hero is someone that we want to be like, a hero is someone who gives us hope, strength and courage to continue living, a hero is a brave person who can help us and gives us a hand in a rainy day.

In movies a hero is someone who has a super power, he is a person that can save the world and can solve all kind of problems. For me a hero is simply a person who can change my life in a very positive way. My parents are my heroes as well as many of my teachers; actually, I have plenty of people in my life who are heroes; but the one that I choose to talk about is not one of my relative or teachers. He is a person who has changed my life without even knowing me. Zach Sobiech is my hero.

Many people in my country do not know who Zach Sobiech is; many people should know Zach and should read about him, know more about his life and journey. We can try to be like him. We can do the same thing that Zach did to many people over the world; we can make others feel happy, strong and optimistic.

I know that I am not the only person in this world who considers this amazing person a hero. I am sure that many others have the same thought. He did not know who I am but he defiantly changed my life; literally.

Zach was an American boy who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at age of 14, which is a bone cancer that mostly strikes children. When he found out that he had just few months to live; he did not give up, he did not want to sit and cry and complain about his illness; he wanted to change something; he wanted to make people know his name and indeed he succeeded to do so.

Zach wanted to be remembered as a kid who went down fighting and didn’t really lose. Well, he can not be a loser with all the things he did. He chose music as a way to say goodbye to his family and friends. His song “Clouds” gained a lot of attention on YouTube; watched by more than 3 million views at the time of his death, and now it reached more than 7 million viewers.

Zach and his family established “The Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund”; he achieved his dream of helping raise money for osteosarcoma research and make people aware of this rare disease. Zach is that person who we look up to and wish to be like. He was the person who made everything in a way that every single one of us wants to do. More than that, he made all that in a very short period of time.

Zach died on May 20; 2013.His death was a shock to me and to many other people. When I found out that he passed away; I could not stop crying; I could not find words to express my sadness. At the same time, I was surprised by the patience of his parents, family and friends. I was happy to see the joy and hope that Zach left behind.

He gave a different meaning of life. He made me understand that life is a gift we should accept. He knew that life is an opportunity we should take. He saw that life is beauty we should appreciate.

Zach wanted us to know that there is a hope and there are still good people in this world. He wanted everyone to know that they can do anything they want. Zach made me a different person by changing the life of many others. He made me think in a different way about life, illness, and death. Even if I did not have the chance to meet Zach, I think he will be a part of my thoughts until the last day of my life.

Maybe, I am late in writing this simple article with these simple words; words that describe how much Zach  means to me .Words that show how much Zach did and how he managed to be a part of our daily  thoughts ,conversations, and lives. I really do think that Zach is worth to be mentioned and he is worth to be one of our heroes.

He was a hero and he will always be. Thank you Zach.
