Happy New Hijri Year

Standard

Today is the first day of the new Hejri year.

We as Muslims celebrate this event every year in a nonspecific time. The Hijri year commemorates the Hijra, or emigration of  the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, and his followers to the city of Medina in 622 CE.

This day is very special to all Muslims around the world. The Muslim year during which the Hijra occurred was designated the first year of the Islamic calendar. Ali suggested that it should begin from the date on which the Muslims migrated from Mecca to Madina. some suggested that the era should begin from the date of birth of Prophet Muhammad. After discussion, Ali’s suggestion was agreed to.
