#NonFictionNovember: My TBR.

Standard

Salam dear friends,

I hope you’re doing great.

Today, I want to share with you my #NonFictionNovember tbr. #NonFictionNovember is a challenge/readathon created by 2 amazing youtubers to encourage people to read more of the nonfiction genre.

They also help the participants by creating 4 -optional- challenges. They encourage readers to pick their books based on these:

New: this means to read a new release, or new author.. Whatever ’new’ means to you.

Contervertial: this is for books with contervertial topics and themes. This aspect may be universally contervertial or just personal.

Important: here you can read about any topic that you are interested in. For me, that would be anything: Translation, Science, Religion,  Feminism,  Literature, Human Rights, Self help, Cinema, Environment … ANYTHING.

Fascinating: this can mean anything that you find amazingabout the book. It can be the style,  the topic, a person,  a place. Again,  it’s a broad area to choose from.

Remember,  the main goal is to read more nonfiction books,  so if you hate that genre, give it a try and pick one book this month. If you normally read 1 or 2 try 3 or more, and so on and so forth.

So here is my TBR (and yeah, I know I’m late):

New: Pancakes in Paris

This a 2016 release. It is a book written by an American man who decides to open a restaurant in France. This is more than him telling us about his journey.  This is a book about his life, his dreams,  himself.

Contervertial: Le Journal d’Anne Frank

I wanted to read this book for a very long time. Actually,  I’ve started reading it in French 4 or 5 years ago, then one of my friends had a copy in English, so I picked it up and read it. The problem was that that version was not complete qnd she didn’t have the second part. So here I am, determined to read it in French this time.

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "le journal d'anne frank"

This is count for contervertial for many reasons. First it was banned several times. Also, it deals with some contervertial topics and it’s written in a very contervertial period. And finally, it is contervertial because there is still a debate,  still some people think that it was not written by Anne Frank herself.

Important: How to Stop Worrying and Start Living

This is a book about living in a better way, living a better life. I started reading it months ago, I enjoyed it, but didn’t finish it. It is beautifully written and I’m planing to start it from the beginning insha’ALLAH.

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "how to stop worrying and start living"

Fascinating: When Breath becomes Air

This a beautiful book about a beautiful human being. A book that is beautifully written, and that I really can’t wait to read it. I can’t say more, for now.

Honorable ambitious TBR mentions (I may or may not read):

في الترجمة: A book about translation and its relationship with philosophy.

A Life in Parts: An ARC I received that is written by Bryan Cranston. It’s his biography from his childhood to now.

Guns: A reread. This is about the contervertial topic of violence,  crimes, and guns in the US. I loved the first time,  and I recommend it for sure.

That is all for today dear all. Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH.

January__March: Top 4 Books I Read.

Standard

Salam dear readers,

I hope you’re doing great.. In the past 3 months, I read a total of 19 books.  Although I did not enjoy many _most_ of them, but still, 19 is a good number for a start. It’s also much better than the same time last year. I wanted to include 5 books in here, but I decided to talk  about 4 only.

Three Men In a Boat

(((( Read the Instagram caption ))))

I’ve just finished reading this book. It took me awhile to read it, but I read most of it in the past 3 days, so I think that is a good thing 📚📚📚📚📚 “Let your boat of life be light, packed with only what you need – a homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends, worth the name, someone to love and someone to love you, a cat, a dog, and a pipe or two, enough to eat and enough to wear, and a little more than enough to drink; for thirst is a dangerous thing. ” ☺📚☺📚☺📚☺ I give it a 4 ☆ out of 5. At first, I thought of giving it 3,5 but it’s worth more. It made me smile, laugh, and think. It is full of knowledge, and it just brushes up my British history knowledge. At some point, it can seem hard to follow, specially with the heavy description of London streets, rivers, and monuments. But it’s just a unique book. I don’t know why, but while reading it, it keeps reminding me of Charlie Chaplin and all those silent funny movies. I imagined the characters as those actors with their outfit, hats, and all those beautiful characteristics. It is also based on real events that the author and his friends experienced, so that’s definitely a plus. The book shows that the author is a man of experience, that he knows what he’s talking about, that he has a very smart sense of humor, and that he’s wise. I really recommend this to all of you dear readers, especially to the ones who like a good funny British classic. 🔭📚🔭📚📚🔭📚🔭 That's it… I’m going to go back now to reading my other Arabic book 😊☺😊 #me #reading #books #bookstagram #bookphotography #bookworm #morocco #marrakech #instalike #instagood #beauty #nature #igreads #currentread #whatareyoureading #boat #classic #كتب #اقرأ #كتبي ر

Guns

My favorite read of the February , this very very short book was a gift from myself to my mind. In short, it talks about guns in the US, precisely. It is brilliantly written, it doesn’t take time, and you (all of you) should go and read it now.

Communication Across Cultures

I had to read this book for a class assignment. We were assigned to read the book, give a summary in Arabic, and translate a part of it into Arabic, along with other things. This was a very useful read. It takes time, but it is worth it. I had to read some chapters 3 or 4 times to avoid misunderstanding or misinterpretation; but again, it was worth it. If you are a translation student or just interested in translation, I would highly recommend this.

عائد الى حيفا

I actually didn’t like this book at first, meaning the first pages. I’m glad that I didn’t stop there. While progressing,  I liked every aspect of the story. The dialogue was so strong and powerful. You can actually sense all the feelings the author wants to convey, and I like that. If you’re an Arab, if you can read Arabic, and if you like a short books (it’s 76 pages long) that makes you feel, read this one.

“أتعرفين ما هو الوطن يا صفية ؟ الوطن هو ألا يحدث ذلك كله.”

That’s it for today. Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH.

January_March: Things that I enjoyed in the past 3 months

Standard

Salam dear readers,

I hope you’re doing great.  Today I’ll share with you some simple things that made me happy, or rather things that just made a change in my life in the past 3 months.

Books

Reading 19 books in the past 3 months made me so happy, even though I didn’t enjoy many/most of them, but that’s OK.

Book hauls

I bought several books that I’m so excited to read,

A classical book haul, YAAYYY 💃💃💃💃. Yesterday, my little sister went to this book expository in #Casablanca, and I asked her to buy me some books if she was able to find them, and she did 💕💕💕💕 These are 6 beautiful classical books that I wanted to read and have my own copy of for so long. I really loved the covers, and I know I’m going to enjoy reading them insha'ALLAH 😊 😊 😊 I jumped from joy when I got them 😊😊 A little quote of mine: Happiness is a bunch of books you hold in your hands 😇😇😇 You’re going to see a lot of this in my profile for sure 😊😊😊 PS. Many thanks to mom, dad, @hafssachahbane, @mido.mouad, and @sarra_chahbane. Love you all 💕💕💕💕 See the magic of books 😀😀😀😀😀😁😁😁😁 One more thing, which one do you recommend me to start with? And what do you think of the covers? #me #reading #books #bookstagram #bookphotography #bookworm #study #blogger #followme #morocco #2016 #marrakech #rain #prideandprejudice #janeausten#classics

and also my brother brought me this amazing copy of this amazing book

Me Before You

I’ve never ever seen a movie thriller and felt that I want to see the film right now like I did. I also wanted to go, buy the book, and read it. I didn’t do it, but this thriller is one of the best ones that I’ve ever seen. I’m not a romantic person , at all, but I actually was about to cry  watching this. If you haven’t watch it yet, watch it now. You can thank me later.

Leonardo Dicaprio winning the Oscars

I’m sure that I’m not the only one that was happy to see this finally happening. This man is an amazing actor,  and he definitely deserves it.

Morning runs/walks

No need to speak, this is the best thing that you can start your day with.

This one

Try to watch this without crying.

Simple things can and do make us happy, remember that.Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH😊😊😊

My 2016 Bookish Goals

Standard

Salam dear friends,

Today, I want to share with you some of my bookish resolutions for this year. I won’t be specified in my goals. I just will share what number of books and what kind of bookish things I want to do this year.

Read 50 books, if not more insha’ALLAH.

Read a classic per month.

Read 5 French books.

Reread some of my favorite books.

Read some trilogies, 3 or 4.

Start some series.

 Read 10+ Arabic books.

Read some new genres.

Read translation literature.

Decrease the number of my books in my TBR.

So those are my top 10 bookish goals for 2016. It’s a very brief post, I know. Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH.

My Favourite Books of 2015

Standard

I know what you’re thinking. It’s already February and I’m still speaking about 2015. Well; that’s what happens when you’re late and you cannot catch up on things 😉

To be honest, I wrote most of this at the beginning of January, then I didn’t have time to edit it, and I had a lot of things to do -school related- still do, but I need to this. I really want to share with you my top 10 of 2015, and I would love to see you do that too ❤

Without any further delay, let’s start this.

2015 was a good reading year for me. I’ve managed to read a total of 50 books ( or more: 52 or so). I’ve read many English books, a lot of Arabic ones, and one French book sadly, which will be in this list. Also,  I discovered new authors, and I was a bit open to new genres and new choices.

Little Women

I love this book. I watched the movie a very long time ago, and really wanted to read it.  I actually started it at the end of 2014, and I’m glad I did. This is a beautiful, just a beautiful story about family, sisters, love, life and the things that matter. It reminds me of me, my sisters, my brother , and my family.  It’s simple, clever, and I recommend this for sure. One more thing..  is that I want a friend like Laurie ( who is one of my favorite characters ever)  😉

It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be

This book is a must read book. The title is capturing. It’s very easy to go through, and you’ll definitely enjoy reading it. It made me love reading nonfiction again.

paul-arden-book-01.jpg

رحلتي مع غاندي

This book came when I really needed it, i.e. when I read this book, some things were happening, and there were some passages of it that really spoke to me, and helped me. It may not be the greatest book written in Arabic, and I may have some/many notes about it, but I loved it. I’m also a “Khawatir” fan, so it makes an absolute sense 😉

001

Animal Farm

This is a book that makes you think, and link events together with historical ones. This is a very good piece of literature. I think George Orwell is brilliant, and I can’t wait to read more and all of his work. You should too (this is not an order of course, but a kind of demand :p )

animal-farm-book-cover.jpg

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

This book is a celebration of language, and its beautiful aspects. Of course, I knew the story before reading this. I actually read the Arabic version ( a concise one), and maybe a French one as well when I was really young. But this reading was entertaining and just beautiful ❤ loved it ❤

Alice's+Adventures+In+Wonderland

Philomel Cottage

This Agatha Christie’ short story is amazing. It takes less than an hour to read, and it is GOOD. I read this as a part of this Halloween Stories Collection, and I’ve read other ones (mostly by Stephen King..), but this one is the best. I started it and couldn’t put it down. Many people don’t like this, but I can’t see why…, because I love it, obviously. This is a perfect example of a short book ( very short) that is rich in the content.

*A spoiler:  You’ll get surprised by the ending.

12549958

Les Fourberies de Scapin

This is my only French read for the past year. I wanted to pick this up since I was 15 or 16. We had it in our bookshelf for a very long time. I finally had the chance to read it, and it didn’t disappoint me for sure. This was funny and creative, though it was not as funny as Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, which I read back when I was 14, and which made me laugh so hard. But for this one, I liked it. It was rich in the content, and it’s an easy quick read. I definitely recommend it.

39292_2655500.jpg

To Kill a Mockingbird

This does not need a justification. I’m happy that I finally read it. I actually found it in our university library, and borrowed it without a second thinking. Atticus is one of the best characters that I’ve ever read about. I loved the characters, the writing style, and the themes. This book does worth all the hype that has been around it for the past 50+ year.  I think I’m going to reread it soon insha’ALLAH, because it deserves to be reread. I also think you need to read it.

IMG_20150721_034755

Horses of God

This book is one of the best books that I’ve ever read. This is a book that can change your views on certain things. It can change your ideas on certain people, and makes you see life in a different way. I actually worked on this book in my BA thesis, along with its adaptation. I’m so happy and proud that it’s by a Moroccan author. This book is originally written in French, and it was translated into English. I read this book 4 or 5 times last year, and I’m diffidently going to reread it. If you want to read this book, read it with a critical mind, and try to understand the characters. This book is about poverty, terrorism, identity, Morocco, you and me; it’s about humans, and it’s good. Go and read it;  I think you’re going to love it.

For the Love of ALLAH

This is a 50 page book, and it’s the best book that I’ve read this year. Essentially, this book  is about Salat, and how to do it properly, and why you should do it. I love praying and I think of it as a daily talk with ALLAH, 5 times a day, if it’s not more, and this book made me love it even more. This book makes you understand Salat. I read it last Ramadan, and I feel happy to have done that. It is very important for me as a Muslim and for you too if you are Muslims. It’s very helpful for the non-Muslims as well, if you want to understand our practices and way of living, and understand Islam and its values the right way.

That’s it. I hope you loved reading this post, as mush as I loved writing it. Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH.

My Top BookTubers

Standard

Salam dear friends,

Hope you’re doing really good 🙂

Today, I decided to share with you something that really makes me happy, and it’s a thing that I do every single day, which is:  Watching Booktube, different amazing booktubers. YES, that’s my guilty pleasure.

I may not have said this before, but I really think of starting my own channel on YouTube, talking about books and things that interest me. I actually thought about this for years, and I just need that little push and determination, and most of all: commitment.

For the people who may not know,  booktubers are a community of people who vlog about books on YouTube. I choose today to talk about people who do much more spontaneous videos, like “books reviews”, “top favorite books”, “book hauls”, ” TBR” and wrap ups. Of course, they are the other channels which talk about books in a funny way like The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, oh I love that, but I’m going to talk about it next time in a whole complete post, happy ???

There is no particular order in this. I love them all equally, and I really enjoy most of their videos. I’ll do a sequel for this post for sure, because there are so many other booktubers that you need to watch for sure.

Catriona from Little Book Owl

Megan from PeruseProject

Sanne from booksandquills

Katy from Katytastic.

Sasha from abookutopia

Zoe from readbyzoe

You may have noticed that they are all females, but this is due to:

  1. Most of the booktubers are females, go and check.

  2. All my Favorited females. I couldn’t find a male booktuber that makes me happy and love books more than these ladies. Of course, VlogBrothers are good, and I enjoyed some of their of videos, but they are not on my top list, sorry.

That’s it for today. Let me know in the comments if  you agree with this??? or do you have different list. I’ll be happy to discover some new channels for sure.

Talk to you very soon insha’ALLAH.

Salam dear friends,

I hope you’re doing great. I didn’t post a thing during the last month. I was travelling and super busy, and…. But, I’m back now.

This post is a very fun one. During the holiday, I read many books; but Bossypants was the one that always in my bag for the last month, and has traveled with me to many cities, saw many beaches, mountains, rivers and roads. I liked this book. It’s funny and worth reading, though I didn’t like some parts ( a review is coming very soon).

Many of these pictures I’ve already posted in my Instagram account, follow me there (https://instagram.com/kaoutar_chahbane/).  In this post, there is a book and it’s in different places. Enjoy reading (actually, seeing :p ) .. Waiting for your comments 🙂

#boutofbooks: My TBR

Standard

Salam dear friends,

It’s a little bit late, but here is my TBR for this week Read-A-Thon.. Enjoy 🙂

PS: I’ve already started reading all these books 🙂

The Reluctant Fundamentalist

I wanted to read this for a long time now, and today, I read 20 pages of it.. I love it 🙂

hamid

Crazy Love

I read most of this in the past two days.. I think I’m going to finish it tonight 🙂

L’homme Sans Passé and مادة التعبير الفيلمي

I only read 20 pages in each.. The first one in French, and it talks about a man who loses his memory in the day of his wedding.. interesting 🙂

The second one is an Arabic non fiction book, and it’s about the techniques and the processes of making movies… Well written 🙂

I also have many other books and materials (concerning university mainly) that I want to read this week.. Who knows?? Maybe, I will.

I have 4 days to go, and I hope that I can make it 🙂

I’ll share with you my progress soon Insha’ALLAH 🙂

One more thing: What do you think of my TBR ??

My Book Review: The Pursuit of Emma

Standard

Salam dear friends,

It’s been a while since I shared with you any of my books reviews.. Today, I have a beautiful book to share with you 🙂

My book for today is The Pursuit of Emma written by Chris Doherty.

It is the story Tom Sharpe whose world turned upside down when he wakes up one day not finding his “wife”. He tries to discover what exactly happens, and more secrets keep on showing up. He finds out that the life he used to live, and the things he used to believe on are not a complete reality. He decides to start his journey of the pursuit of the love of his life, Emma.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. I loved the way Tom changes, though I can’t understand how he can just forgive her, save her ( like really save her) , and live with her. He changes from being a crying baby to a fighter, and a doer. I also liked  the way the writer represents the whole story, and the twists of the plot, very clever. When you start reading the novel, you don’t expect those things to happen, and to the story to develops that way.

This a  great novel filled with suspense.  I don’t want to talk about the details, but I really want you to read it; trust me, you’ll love it. The ending is so….. No need to say more.. Go and read it now 😀

Funny thing, while reading this I dreamed that I’m part of the whole life of Tom an Emma: scary and funny at the same time, right?? ❤

A snapshot 🙂

A quote that I loved, really loved ❤

Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH 🙂
