YaLa Program: My 5 Ethical rules

Standard

Salam dear people,

I hope you’re doing good 🙂

I’m taking part in an online program called YaLa Citizen Journalism. It’s a program that brings together young leaders from all over the MENA region. It’s an amazing program that help in enriching our knowledge on different fields. It also gives us a chance to know more people from different culture, religion, country. I’m really looking forward to learn more from it.

That’s been said, I decided to share with you my experience or journey throughout this program by sharing different parts of it. The reason for that is because I’m very proud of taking part in it, and I think it’s a very good idea to spread the positive energy and the change that YaLa program has on us on a wider audience. You can learn more about this program here.

After watching a very enriching lecture on Ethics and having a discussion about it, our first assignment for last week was to share our top 5 ethical rules.

So, here are the 5 basic ethical rules that I will follow insha’ALLAH:

Be truthful: by that I mean looking for the truth wherever it is and transforming it as it is. It also means acknowledging mistakes and correcting them.

yala1

Be responsible: my work is mine. It has my name, my beliefs, my thoughts, and my way of seeing the world. But that’s not all, my work can influence people’s thoughts on certain things, so I need to be aware of that so that people can trust and rely on me as a source of information.

yala2.jpg

Be skeptic —> Be accurate: For me, skepticism means not to belief in everything that has been said. More importantly, it also means not to transfer anything that I don’t belief as true. This will definitely help me to be more accurate.

yala3

Be creative/ be diverse: I think to be successful in what I’m doing I need to be diverse and creative. People wouldn’t be interesting in what I’m writing or speaking about if I didn’t show them where my creativity lies, why am I different, why should they spend time checking what I’m doing.

yala4.jpg

Respect —> Accept: Respecting opinions that are different from mine is a key rule in every act of life. In Yala program, I think we are learning to do that more effectively (it’s like a practical exercise after long theoretical courses ) and that will help us accept and respect one other even if we were from different culture, country, and religion.

yala5

Like I always say as a general rule in my life, I like to treat people the way I want to be treated and I try to do that as much I can. Following the same rule, I like to see and read things that follow these rules. So I will do my best to follow them in my work whatever that was (blogging, journalism, translation, writing…).

That’s it for today. Finally, I really recommend you to apply for this program in the upcoming semesters. It will really HELP.

Back Again… Back to Stay… Maybe!?

Standard

Salam dear readers,

Yes, it’s been a long long time since I posted anything in here. It’s the longest of them all.

The good news is that I’m still alive. YeeeY 😉 😉

But there are some things to talk about.

So.. Before starting blogging again; we need to talk; meaning I need to talk and explain, and.. confess. First, what is the problem? Why do I take so much time to blog? Is it time? Is it being busy? Or is it just because I don’t love blogging that much or enough?

Yes,sometimes I don’t have time, and sometimes I’m too tired. But that’s not an excuse nor is being busy or having so many tasks to do, or travelling; because there are times when I’m not.

The next question is whether I really love blogging; because it does not seem like I do; right? Well, I really do. I love writing and I love sharing all that with you. I really like sharing my ideas and my views with you. I like showing you what I love and what I don’t. I love the whole act, the whole blogging process.

Sometimes it is good to take a step back, and just be honest with yourself. I want to be a better blogger and I will work on that.

So, what should I do?

I need to change all that soon.. NOW.

I need to show that I care; that I really love doing this.
I need to be organized.
I need to work on my skills as a blogger.
I need your help.

The next question is: how can YOU help?? Well, it’s easy. Just give me suggestions, topics to talk about, ways to improve this, ask me questions, give me challenges, reasonable ones not the crazy type. I really hope you will help. Thank you in advance 🙂 😉 😉

This is all for today. I will talk to you very soon insha’ALLAH.

#My Instagram Share#: My Hijab

Standard

Salam dear friends,

This is to share with you what I often post in my Instagram.

#Me-and-Hijab

#HijabToMe ⏩⏩⏩ I’m posting this to support @huffingtonpost initiative to introduce hijab, its diversity, and its beauty. Why do I wear hijab? Why am I so proud of wearing it? And what does it represent to me? Hijab is my way to show that I am a Muslim, and that I am proud to be. #Hijab is my way to show that modestey does not limit creativity, intelligence,  and confidence.  What really limits those is ignorance. My hijab is my way to fight against stereotypes. My hijab in an everyday reminder of who I am, and why I’m Muslim. It’s even a daily reminder of the reasons of my existence. Hijab is my way of showing my respect and love of my #religion and my #identity. Wearing hijab does not mean ’oppression’. On the contrary, it’s a very high/beautiful form of liberation. It’s part of my confidence and personality. I love wearing hijab. I love being a Muslim, and I will always be a proud to be one. Being a Muslim means that I respect my Islamic believes, values, and way of living. It also means that I respect/accept every other human in this earth, their believes, and ways of living. That’s what wearing hijab means to me. I don’t normally post my pictures,  but this is an exception, and it’s for a beautiful reason. Song of the day

Standard

Salam dear readers,

It’s been a while since I did this.

Fact about me: I like songs with a message, a purpose. I love good music.

This is a song that I first heard a year ago, and I really love it. I respect this artist, and I’m very obsessed with most of his songs; I know that I’m definitely not the only one. Whenever I feel stressed, sad or moody; or even better, when I’m happy (anytime, anywhere actually) I listen to his songs.

This one has beautiful words, with a beautiful massage, and a beautiful rhythm (again most of his songs have that). Not so many people talk about this though (I know, even if it has 4,039,024 views on YouTube) , and I think they should.

As a Muslim and an Arab, his songs appeal to me, because of its message, values, and meaning. But even if you’re not an Arab or a Muslim, I highly recommend this for you. It has the English translation on it, so you will enjoy it for sure.

I know many talk about “اضحك“”Smile”,”كن أنت“”Be you”, and “لغات العالم“”the language of the words”; which are the most famous; these are my favorite as well. This one is really worth listening to; so go and do it if you didn’t already.

Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH.

January_March: Things that I enjoyed in the past 3 months

Standard

Salam dear readers,

I hope you’re doing great.  Today I’ll share with you some simple things that made me happy, or rather things that just made a change in my life in the past 3 months.

Books

Reading 19 books in the past 3 months made me so happy, even though I didn’t enjoy many/most of them, but that’s OK.

Book hauls

I bought several books that I’m so excited to read,

A classical book haul, YAAYYY 💃💃💃💃. Yesterday, my little sister went to this book expository in #Casablanca, and I asked her to buy me some books if she was able to find them, and she did 💕💕💕💕 These are 6 beautiful classical books that I wanted to read and have my own copy of for so long. I really loved the covers, and I know I’m going to enjoy reading them insha'ALLAH 😊 😊 😊 I jumped from joy when I got them 😊😊 A little quote of mine: Happiness is a bunch of books you hold in your hands 😇😇😇 You’re going to see a lot of this in my profile for sure 😊😊😊 PS. Many thanks to mom, dad, @hafssachahbane, @mido.mouad, and @sarra_chahbane. Love you all 💕💕💕💕 See the magic of books 😀😀😀😀😀😁😁😁😁 One more thing, which one do you recommend me to start with? And what do you think of the covers? #me #reading #books #bookstagram #bookphotography #bookworm #study #blogger #followme #morocco #2016 #marrakech #rain #prideandprejudice #janeausten#classics

and also my brother brought me this amazing copy of this amazing book

Me Before You

I’ve never ever seen a movie thriller and felt that I want to see the film right now like I did. I also wanted to go, buy the book, and read it. I didn’t do it, but this thriller is one of the best ones that I’ve ever seen. I’m not a romantic person , at all, but I actually was about to cry  watching this. If you haven’t watch it yet, watch it now. You can thank me later.

Leonardo Dicaprio winning the Oscars

I’m sure that I’m not the only one that was happy to see this finally happening. This man is an amazing actor,  and he definitely deserves it.

Morning runs/walks

No need to speak, this is the best thing that you can start your day with.

This one

Try to watch this without crying.

Simple things can and do make us happy, remember that.Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH😊😊😊

It’s Up to You

Standard

Salam dear readers,

I’m happy to be finally back. I know I don’t write as often as I should do, nor as often as I want to.

Today, I decided to write a very random post, just chatting with you. This is a post for all of us to get organized, and to do do more things in our lives.. This is me talking out loud to myself and to all of you.

What can we/ should we do to make our life more effective? How can we make everyday a happy day?

It’s Up To Us.

Here are some small things to do so as to be more effective. These are some of the things that I’m already doing, things that I always try to do, and things that I will start doing.

kakp

Use your online time effectively

Instead of spending hours and hours in checking social media, chatting, or basically doing nothing, we can spend this time learning new things, discovering new cultures and greeting new knowledge. An example of this for me would be watching TED talks. These talks are wonderful ways to learn new things. They make me think of new creative things.

Make “to do” list and a ” did” list

I started doing this when I was really young, especially the “to do” list. It really hepls me in doing many things. It would make you very organized, and it will help you identify what you want to do, what you need to do, and what you have accomplished.

Start leaning something, a new thing

Focus on learning a thing, a special thing. Whether it was a new language, or a new craft, the most important thing is to use your free time effectively.

Wake up earlier

Yes, it’s a very simple step, but very hard. We like sleeping, and sometimes we don’t get enough sleep at night, or we spend late hours in reading or watching something that we replace that time in the morning, specially on holidays and weekends. You need to stop that. Wake up earlier, and go for a run or a walk. Personally, I love doing that. Do something that you love.  This will help you getting more organized, and using your day effectively.

Read, Read , and Read a lot

Did you think that I’m going to write a whole post on how to be more effective without even mentioning reading, books, and reading? Silly you, of course, I will. Reading is essential. If you can read, and you don’t, then you are making the worse outrageous crime against your own self. Go and read. Understand what you’re reading, and use it. I will say it for the million times: Reading is living.

That’s it for today. I hope you’ll find these steps helpful, and you will start using them.

Do not forget to like and share this post if you did like it. I will talk to you soon insha’ALLAH.

My Favourite Books of 2015

Standard

I know what you’re thinking. It’s already February and I’m still speaking about 2015. Well; that’s what happens when you’re late and you cannot catch up on things 😉

To be honest, I wrote most of this at the beginning of January, then I didn’t have time to edit it, and I had a lot of things to do -school related- still do, but I need to this. I really want to share with you my top 10 of 2015, and I would love to see you do that too ❤

Without any further delay, let’s start this.

2015 was a good reading year for me. I’ve managed to read a total of 50 books ( or more: 52 or so). I’ve read many English books, a lot of Arabic ones, and one French book sadly, which will be in this list. Also,  I discovered new authors, and I was a bit open to new genres and new choices.

Little Women

I love this book. I watched the movie a very long time ago, and really wanted to read it.  I actually started it at the end of 2014, and I’m glad I did. This is a beautiful, just a beautiful story about family, sisters, love, life and the things that matter. It reminds me of me, my sisters, my brother , and my family.  It’s simple, clever, and I recommend this for sure. One more thing..  is that I want a friend like Laurie ( who is one of my favorite characters ever)  😉

It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want to Be

This book is a must read book. The title is capturing. It’s very easy to go through, and you’ll definitely enjoy reading it. It made me love reading nonfiction again.

paul-arden-book-01.jpg

رحلتي مع غاندي

This book came when I really needed it, i.e. when I read this book, some things were happening, and there were some passages of it that really spoke to me, and helped me. It may not be the greatest book written in Arabic, and I may have some/many notes about it, but I loved it. I’m also a “Khawatir” fan, so it makes an absolute sense 😉

001

Animal Farm

This is a book that makes you think, and link events together with historical ones. This is a very good piece of literature. I think George Orwell is brilliant, and I can’t wait to read more and all of his work. You should too (this is not an order of course, but a kind of demand :p )

animal-farm-book-cover.jpg

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

This book is a celebration of language, and its beautiful aspects. Of course, I knew the story before reading this. I actually read the Arabic version ( a concise one), and maybe a French one as well when I was really young. But this reading was entertaining and just beautiful ❤ loved it ❤

Alice's+Adventures+In+Wonderland

Philomel Cottage

This Agatha Christie’ short story is amazing. It takes less than an hour to read, and it is GOOD. I read this as a part of this Halloween Stories Collection, and I’ve read other ones (mostly by Stephen King..), but this one is the best. I started it and couldn’t put it down. Many people don’t like this, but I can’t see why…, because I love it, obviously. This is a perfect example of a short book ( very short) that is rich in the content.

*A spoiler:  You’ll get surprised by the ending.

12549958

Les Fourberies de Scapin

This is my only French read for the past year. I wanted to pick this up since I was 15 or 16. We had it in our bookshelf for a very long time. I finally had the chance to read it, and it didn’t disappoint me for sure. This was funny and creative, though it was not as funny as Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, which I read back when I was 14, and which made me laugh so hard. But for this one, I liked it. It was rich in the content, and it’s an easy quick read. I definitely recommend it.

39292_2655500.jpg

To Kill a Mockingbird

This does not need a justification. I’m happy that I finally read it. I actually found it in our university library, and borrowed it without a second thinking. Atticus is one of the best characters that I’ve ever read about. I loved the characters, the writing style, and the themes. This book does worth all the hype that has been around it for the past 50+ year.  I think I’m going to reread it soon insha’ALLAH, because it deserves to be reread. I also think you need to read it.

IMG_20150721_034755

Horses of God

This book is one of the best books that I’ve ever read. This is a book that can change your views on certain things. It can change your ideas on certain people, and makes you see life in a different way. I actually worked on this book in my BA thesis, along with its adaptation. I’m so happy and proud that it’s by a Moroccan author. This book is originally written in French, and it was translated into English. I read this book 4 or 5 times last year, and I’m diffidently going to reread it. If you want to read this book, read it with a critical mind, and try to understand the characters. This book is about poverty, terrorism, identity, Morocco, you and me; it’s about humans, and it’s good. Go and read it;  I think you’re going to love it.

For the Love of ALLAH

This is a 50 page book, and it’s the best book that I’ve read this year. Essentially, this book  is about Salat, and how to do it properly, and why you should do it. I love praying and I think of it as a daily talk with ALLAH, 5 times a day, if it’s not more, and this book made me love it even more. This book makes you understand Salat. I read it last Ramadan, and I feel happy to have done that. It is very important for me as a Muslim and for you too if you are Muslims. It’s very helpful for the non-Muslims as well, if you want to understand our practices and way of living, and understand Islam and its values the right way.

2015-11-30-18-33-39.png

That’s it. I hope you loved reading this post, as mush as I loved writing it. Talk to you soon insha’ALLAH.

It’s just a bad dream…

Standard

Yes, Yes, it’s just another dream.

That’s what I would like to believe, a bad dream of uncontrolled mind. It’s a bad dream of a sick destroyed mentality of people around the world who are surrounding you and me.

18-months-old baby was burned to death on Friday morning after his home was attacked by suspected Jewish settlers. Ali is, was his name. Ali, a baby who didn’t know anything about war, colonization, or injustice.

Ali’s parents and his four-year-old brother, Ahmed, were also injured in the attack, suffering burns that have covered up to 75 percent of their bodies, said health officials at Nablus Rafidia hospital.

 Sorry for not fighting

for you to be living,

sorry for watching you dying

without any acting,

sorry for not being there

when you were crying

Sorry for forgetting

 “human” meaning

“Revenge” and “long live the Messiah” was the graffiti that was found on the burned walls of the house.

We didn’t see any long march or any long heart-touching speech of any president, minister, king, queen, prince, senator,.. nothing. Oh.. Right? Silly me. It’s not a big event after all. Don’t get us wrong, it’s not something that will effect our security or people. It’s not going to be a priority on our agenda. The lives of other people do not matter after all.

No, it’s not a bad dream, it’s happening. For Ali, it’s not a bad dream. For his mother, it’s not a bad dream. For Palestine, it’s not just a dream. For me, you, us, wake up, it’s not a dream.

Sorry Ali, power wins. Or you know what, cross that: not power, it’s the inhumanity, cruelty, and brutality that actually win, always.
