YaLa Program: My 5 Ethical rules

Standard

Salam dear people,

I hope you’re doing good 🙂

I’m taking part in an online program called YaLa Citizen Journalism. It’s a program that brings together young leaders from all over the MENA region. It’s an amazing program that help in enriching our knowledge on different fields. It also gives us a chance to know more people from different culture, religion, country. I’m really looking forward to learn more from it.

That’s been said, I decided to share with you my experience or journey throughout this program by sharing different parts of it. The reason for that is because I’m very proud of taking part in it, and I think it’s a very good idea to spread the positive energy and the change that YaLa program has on us on a wider audience. You can learn more about this program here.

After watching a very enriching lecture on Ethics and having a discussion about it, our first assignment for last week was to share our top 5 ethical rules.

So, here are the 5 basic ethical rules that I will follow insha’ALLAH:

Be truthful: by that I mean looking for the truth wherever it is and transforming it as it is. It also means acknowledging mistakes and correcting them.

yala1

Be responsible: my work is mine. It has my name, my beliefs, my thoughts, and my way of seeing the world. But that’s not all, my work can influence people’s thoughts on certain things, so I need to be aware of that so that people can trust and rely on me as a source of information.

yala2.jpg

Be skeptic —> Be accurate: For me, skepticism means not to belief in everything that has been said. More importantly, it also means not to transfer anything that I don’t belief as true. This will definitely help me to be more accurate.

yala3

Be creative/ be diverse: I think to be successful in what I’m doing I need to be diverse and creative. People wouldn’t be interesting in what I’m writing or speaking about if I didn’t show them where my creativity lies, why am I different, why should they spend time checking what I’m doing.

yala4.jpg

Respect —> Accept: Respecting opinions that are different from mine is a key rule in every act of life. In Yala program, I think we are learning to do that more effectively (it’s like a practical exercise after long theoretical courses ) and that will help us accept and respect one other even if we were from different culture, country, and religion.

yala5

Like I always say as a general rule in my life, I like to treat people the way I want to be treated and I try to do that as much I can. Following the same rule, I like to see and read things that follow these rules. So I will do my best to follow them in my work whatever that was (blogging, journalism, translation, writing…).

That’s it for today. Finally, I really recommend you to apply for this program in the upcoming semesters. It will really HELP.

It’s Up to You

Standard

Salam dear readers,

I’m happy to be finally back. I know I don’t write as often as I should do, nor as often as I want to.

Today, I decided to write a very random post, just chatting with you. This is a post for all of us to get organized, and to do do more things in our lives.. This is me talking out loud to myself and to all of you.

What can we/ should we do to make our life more effective? How can we make everyday a happy day?

It’s Up To Us.

Here are some small things to do so as to be more effective. These are some of the things that I’m already doing, things that I always try to do, and things that I will start doing.

kakp

Use your online time effectively

Instead of spending hours and hours in checking social media, chatting, or basically doing nothing, we can spend this time learning new things, discovering new cultures and greeting new knowledge. An example of this for me would be watching TED talks. These talks are wonderful ways to learn new things. They make me think of new creative things.

Make “to do” list and a ” did” list

I started doing this when I was really young, especially the “to do” list. It really hepls me in doing many things. It would make you very organized, and it will help you identify what you want to do, what you need to do, and what you have accomplished.

Start leaning something, a new thing

Focus on learning a thing, a special thing. Whether it was a new language, or a new craft, the most important thing is to use your free time effectively.

Wake up earlier

Yes, it’s a very simple step, but very hard. We like sleeping, and sometimes we don’t get enough sleep at night, or we spend late hours in reading or watching something that we replace that time in the morning, specially on holidays and weekends. You need to stop that. Wake up earlier, and go for a run or a walk. Personally, I love doing that. Do something that you love.  This will help you getting more organized, and using your day effectively.

Read, Read , and Read a lot

Did you think that I’m going to write a whole post on how to be more effective without even mentioning reading, books, and reading? Silly you, of course, I will. Reading is essential. If you can read, and you don’t, then you are making the worse outrageous crime against your own self. Go and read. Understand what you’re reading, and use it. I will say it for the million times: Reading is living.

That’s it for today. I hope you’ll find these steps helpful, and you will start using them.

Do not forget to like and share this post if you did like it. I will talk to you soon insha’ALLAH.

2015: Last months in a review

Standard

Salam dear friends,

So like I’ve said before, a lot had happened in the past months, and I feel the need to share it with you.

Well, 2015 was a good year for me in many levels. Even when the bad things happened; they were there so I could learn a lesson, so I can check where I am and be honest with myself, and so I can value what I have.

In 2015, I tried to know new things and be open to new experiences. I met some wonderful people that I’m very proud to know. I also learned more things about myself.

2015 was a happy for most of it, but i also was a very hard time for me and my family.

Couple months ago,  my father got sick and he needed to have a surgery. It was a very normal at the beginning,  because it was a common one. He went to one of the doctors after seeing many others,  this later gave him a medicine that shouldn’t be given and did not give him the right instructions.  My father’s situation got complicated,  and he went to this doctor, he didn’t do nothing for him and give this negative pessimistic message that’s made him lose hope and for the first time in my life, I saw my dad, my hero, losing hope, not sleeping, loosing weight, and looking very tired all the time. My father is my rock, and in that period,  I saw my rock loosing its brightness. Me, my sisters, my brother and my mom had the most difficult period maybe in our life. We prayed a lot and made a lot of duaa. Many of my friends were there for me, making duaa, asking doctors, and assuring me that everything will be OK,  and it did. ALLAH was/is there,  and in that period, I knew the greatness and the mercy of ALLAH like I never did, and it felt great.

In that period,  I discovered my strength as well as my weakness. I discovered how strong I can be for others,  how strong I can appear to be;  but I also discovered how weak I can get without those people in my life. I cannot live without them, just can’t.

What I learned from this is that:

📍Always believed in the greatness of the Almighty ALLAH.

📍 These are tests and reminders of what life is about.

📍 Always do good, be better, and spread love and happiness.

I will keep this short. I know I’m late in tackling this, but I’m finally did it. It’s very important for me to share this with you dear friends.

Talk to you very soon Insha’ALLAH 😊 ☺ 😊

My Top BookTubers

Standard

Salam dear friends,

Hope you’re doing really good 🙂

Today, I decided to share with you something that really makes me happy, and it’s a thing that I do every single day, which is:  Watching Booktube, different amazing booktubers. YES, that’s my guilty pleasure.

I may not have said this before, but I really think of starting my own channel on YouTube, talking about books and things that interest me. I actually thought about this for years, and I just need that little push and determination, and most of all: commitment.

For the people who may not know,  booktubers are a community of people who vlog about books on YouTube. I choose today to talk about people who do much more spontaneous videos, like “books reviews”, “top favorite books”, “book hauls”, ” TBR” and wrap ups. Of course, they are the other channels which talk about books in a funny way like The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, oh I love that, but I’m going to talk about it next time in a whole complete post, happy ???

There is no particular order in this. I love them all equally, and I really enjoy most of their videos. I’ll do a sequel for this post for sure, because there are so many other booktubers that you need to watch for sure.

Catriona from Little Book Owl

Megan from PeruseProject

Sanne from booksandquills

Katy from Katytastic.

Sasha from abookutopia

Zoe from readbyzoe

You may have noticed that they are all females, but this is due to:

  1. Most of the booktubers are females, go and check.

  2. All my Favorited females. I couldn’t find a male booktuber that makes me happy and love books more than these ladies. Of course, VlogBrothers are good, and I enjoyed some of their of videos, but they are not on my top list, sorry.

That’s it for today. Let me know in the comments if  you agree with this??? or do you have different list. I’ll be happy to discover some new channels for sure.

Talk to you very soon insha’ALLAH.

Things to do after Ramadan

Standard

Salam dear friends,

Happy Eid to all of you 🙂

Another Ramadan has gone, but the blessings and the benefits of this holly month stay always with us 🙂

keep

So, what can we do, as Muslims, after Ramadan to keep the spirit of this month??

Here are six things you can do to keep that spirit  🙂

Fast Six Days in Shawwal.

It’s a beautiful way to maintain the spirit of Ramadan and to gain Ajr

Make Up for Missed Fast Days

It’s very necessary to fast the days you weren’t able to fast in Ramadan. I do advice you to do it immediately after Ramadan, in Shawwal.

Observing optional fasting after Ramadan

It makes you ready for the next Ramadan, and it’s also good for your health and soul.

Keep on Reading, Reciting, and Reflecting on the Quran

One of the best things ALLAH gives us is the Quran. It’s a beautiful gift. Try to read it, understand it, and apply it.

Take a Good Care of the Poor and the Needy

One of the purposes of fasting Ramadan is to feel what the poor people feel, and to be able to help them. Make it your goal for this year. You’ll feel so much better.

Keep On Performing Dhikr a Lot

There is nothing better than being and feeling close to ALLAH, talking to him, and remembering him.. Do not stop this after Ramadan. Ask Almighty Allah for forgiveness. Optional night Prayer is also a good way to keep your heart and mind close to ALLAH.

Ramadan is a new chance for you and me to start over. Try to use this time to be a good human, and to do good things.

Talk to you very soon insha’ALLAH 🙂 🙂 🙂

Ideas Worth Spreading

Standard

Salam dear friends,

Do you feel inspired?? Well, you will 🙂

ted talks

I decided to add a new category to the blog in which I share my favorite TED talks.

I really love watching These talks.. It inspires me and helps me think; write, and create new things 🙂

TED talks are a mind changing. TED is a form of online videos of scientists, artists, inventors and others talking about their work.

I think it’s good to watch what others have done, and to get inspiration from it. It’s also good to share what you know with others, and that’s what TED does.

They encourage viewers to build on what they already know, and that’s great 🙂

Keep on following, because every week I’ll share one of my favorite talks with you insha’ALLAH 😀

This is from a pluviophile.

Salam dear friends,

So, I love rain… I think that this weather is just magical and miraculous, and to relate it to bad luck, and ugly things is a criminal act.. I know, I’m using big words here, but that’s just the the “rain lover self” talking 😉

I feel very optimistic in a cloudy rainy day.. Strange, isn’t it?? But, it’s 100% true 😉

Yesterday, I got wet in the rain.. It was a beautiful day 🙂

  • It’s better to fall asleep to the sound of the rain.. Don’t you think??

Female Authors You Should Be Reading…

Standard

Salam dear friends,

Today is the international women’s day.. I decided to share with you some of the female authors that you should know, and read their works. The authors are from different periods, and they are clever, creative, and talented 😉

Louisa May Alcott

I think we’re all familiar with this name. I love her way of writing: simple and thoughtful.

Maya Angelou

I love this woman. I have read almost all her poems, and parts of her other works.. I first knew her in the Oprah’s show. I was very young and I loved her words, and I found that she’s very wise. Her quotes are mind changing.

Danielle Steel

A woman who needs no introduction…This author knows what she’s doing. So far, I’ve read two of her novels, and I loved them. She is currently the best selling author alive and the fourth bestselling author of all time.

Debbie Macomber

I really enjoyed reading the works of this author. She knows how to choose her characters, and I feel that women will identify with them.

Zadie Smith

She is compared to Charles Dickens, and other brilliant authors. This young female author should be known and read 🙂

Alice Munro

This Nobel Prize winner deserves to be on the top of the list.. She is the queen of short stories… You should read one of hers at least 🙂

There is more, of course.. J. K. Rowling, Anne Rice, Gillian Flynn, Alice Walker…………….

I know I did not mention them all.. The list is long, but I choose these women just to show how great they were and are. I love their works. I thank them  for what they’ve done, and I am sure I’m not the only one who enjoyed reading what they’ve written 🙂

Happy International Women’s Day to all the books lovers, authors, women, and human beings.
